We were sad to hear that Maryland lost but here is our next post to cheer you all up!
The bloggers this evening are Peyton and Colin!
Hello everyone, it is Peyton. Today was a very eventful today! We woke up at 6:00 am and got ready to leave for Tabaco Caye. We ate breakfast and then we were on our way. We had a 4 hour car ride to the boat dock because our bus broke down so we had to wait for 2 hours to get it fixed. We sang lots of songs and waited for the bus to get fixed. After we arrived to the boat dock, we all loaded our bags on the speedboat and we were off. The boat ride was about 30 minutes and it was overcast so it was very windy. When we arrived to the island, we were greeted by a German shepherd and 3 puppies the size of my arm. They were so adorable!!! Then, we headed to lunch, which was very good. It was chicken lomain with fruit. After lunch, we went to the research room and watched a PowerPoint presentation about the animals in the water and then got all of our snorkel gear on. Then, we headed out to Reef’s End and there we were off to snorkel in the Caribbean Sea. We had a learning session in the water and practiced and then we went far out. We saw lots and lots of fish. After that we played volleyball with some of the kids on the islands and then ate an Italian dinner. After dinner, we went night snorkeling. We split up into two groups. I was in the first group with Kristin, Natalea, Lily, Myra, and Suhasini. My partner was Kristin and we both linked arms and then jumped into the water. We all had underwater flashlights to see every creature. We saw 2 puffer fish, 2 eels the size of sharks, 1 octopus that wrapped its tentacles around my leg, a lot of hermit crabs, lion fish, jellyfish, sea urchins, and a lot of other fish. We also went very far off the island and turned all of our lights off so we were floating in the dark. Then, we flapped our “fins” and saw the luminescent coral that lit up greenish-blue. Then, we went back to our rooms and now we are hanging out by the beach and listening to the waves. See you all on Tuesday!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone it’s Colin. We started off the day today with taking a van to the dock to get to the island in which we will be spending the next few nights, Tobacco Caye. It was supposed to be a two and a half hour drive, but it took four hours because the van broke down and we had to get someone to fix it. It didn’t seem like it was too long though; we talked for the majority of the time and slept for the rest. We eventually arrived at the dock and hopped on a speedboat and sailed to the island. I sat in one of the back spots, however I didn’t get soaked, so I was happy about that. We arrived at the island and I love it here so far. The island is beautiful and it has dogs and cats and even a volleyball net so that we could play in our free time. We ate lunch and went to a briefing for snorkeling. The beginning told us three simple rules on what to do while in the water, but the rest of the presentation listed every possible danger that we could encounter including many fishes that when they attacked, the pain ranged from a bee sting to a pit-bull bite, so you could imagine that we were all thrilled to get into the water after that. We got our gear and went into the water for a short lesson. We didn’t really see anything of interest on that trip, but we did later. After the lesson, we played volleyball with some of the local kids until dinner. After that we listened to another presentation on night snorkeling. There were too many of us to go at once, so we went in two groups. I went in the second group and saw a squid, a blowfish, a lionfish, and three eels with one of them being about the size of a shark. It was a bit scary, but we managed to get through it. I hope you all have a good night!
